Used effectively, design patents can be an important part of an IP portfolio. The Mach3 Turbo razor is a perfect example — it is apparently backed by over 30 design patents. The Gillette Company seems to be particularly adept at using design patents, as evidenced by this listing of its US design patent portfolio.
