Blog recommendation - Bob Shaver’s Patent Pending
I’ve been meaning to recommend Bob Shaver’s Patent Pending blog to my readers for some time now. So here goes: Read Bob’s Blog.
Last week, in Boise, I had the opportunity to meet Bob and talk to him about his blog (among other great conversations on blogging in general, the practice of law, and the content of something called a “seafood bag” on the menu at the Thai place where we shared lunch). I told Bob that I think his blog occupies perhaps one of the coolest spaces in the blogosphere: technological history. As far as I know, Bob is the only blogger in this space, which makes his blog even more cool. And he does beautiful things with it. If you’re new to Bob’s blog, check out these favorite posts of mine: Pullman sleeping car, the Japanese Zero, and barbed wire (which my college history professor believed to be the single most important invention in the history of our country).
I’ve noticed something in my habits that, I think, are quite telling about the quality and nature of Bob’s blog. I ignore it. Seriously. I don’t read it during the week. I intentionally skip over his blog in my aggregator during the week, saving his posts for reading over the weekend when the pace is a little easier. His posts lend themselves to pleasant weekend reading. I don’t have this habit with any other blog in my aggregator (which currently contains more than 300 feeds in it).
Whether you read it the way I do or not, please give his blog a look. I’m betting you’ll add it to the ‘ole aggregator if it’s not in there already. Like me, you’ll soon be amazed at the knowledge Bob has.
