Comments by Alan Greenspan on intellectual property rights in concept-focused economies

Alan Greenspan, chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, recently spoke at the Summit of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR).

Chairman Greenspan’s comments, available here, focus on the importance of intellectual property rights in an economy, such as that of the United States, that is increasingly dependent on concepts and less so on physical property.

The last section of the comments provides interesting economic-based insight into some of the current hot legal issues in patent law. The questions posed in this section make you think about the purpose and effect of intellectual property rights, especially in context of said current hot topics.

SIEPR has made a video clip of Chairman Greenspan’s delivery of the last section of his speech available here. The audio of the entire speech is available here.
