Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issues report on steps it can take to speed medical innovation
Earlier this year, Secretary Tommy Thompson created the Medical Innovation Task force and asked for a report on steps HHS can take to “speed the development and availability of new medical technologies.”
Today, HHS released the report of the Task Force. Among the recommendations:
- improve cooperation with other federal agencies that play an important role in medical technology development
- create a forum that will serve as a sounding board for investigators and manufacturers to communicate with HHS agencies
- support the ongoing development of standard formats for electronic clinical trial data
- create new inter-agency scientific education and cross-training efforts to identify knowledge gaps among those serving in the technology transfer functions in HHS
If you are interested in medical innovation, or if you have clients who are interested in this area, the report is a must read.
